Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan
A unique pagoda-style tower with a tilt, often called Malaysia’s own “leaning tower.”
Standing proudly in the heart of Teluk Intan, the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan is one of Malaysia’s most distinctive landmarks — a charming pagoda-style structure that tilts gracefully to one side, earning it the nickname “Malaysia’s own Leaning Tower.”
Built in 1885 by contractor Leong Choon Chong, the tower originally served as a water storage tank to supply clean water to the town and as a clock tower to keep time for the local community. From the outside, it resembles an eight-storey pagoda, but step inside and you’ll find it’s actually a three-storey wooden structure with a fascinating spiral staircase that winds its way to the top.
The tower’s famous tilt was caused by the soft ground and the weight of the water tank, giving it its signature slant — a quirk that has since turned it into one of Perak’s most beloved attractions. Today, it stands as both a symbol of local ingenuity and a testament to the town’s rich heritage.
Visitors can climb up to enjoy a unique perspective of Teluk Intan, admire the traditional wooden architecture, and learn about the town’s historical roots through displays and exhibits inside. Surrounding the tower are local shops, food stalls, and night markets that make the area lively day and night — perfect for a relaxed cultural stroll.
📍 Location: Jalan Pasar, Teluk Intan, Perak
🕒 Best time to visit: Evening, when the tower is beautifully lit and the nearby food stalls come alive.
✨ A visit to the Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan isn’t just about seeing a tilted landmark — it’s about experiencing the enduring charm of Perak’s heritage and craftsmanship.
